The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has officially denied issuing any recent orders to block YouTube or any other social media platform in Pakistan. The clarification was issued on Friday in response to a resurfaced press release from September 2012 that has caused widespread confusion online.

In a statement, PTA noted, “It has come to the attention of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) that an old press release regarding the shutdown of YouTube in Pakistan—originally issued in compliance with the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan—is being recirculated online, causing unnecessary confusion among the public.”

The regulator emphasized that the viral document is outdated and “irrelevant to the current circumstances.”

“Currently, no instructions have been issued by PTA to block or shut down YouTube or any other social media platform,” the authority clarified.

PTA also urged the public to consult only its official website and verified social media accounts for the most accurate and current updates, discouraging reliance on unauthenticated sources.
