Tensions between Pakistan and India have reached a new peak following the loss of several Indian aircraft, including a high-value Rafale jet, in Pakistan’s retaliatory action. The Indian Air Force had launched early morning airstrikes on Wednesday, claiming it was in response to a terror attack in Pahalgam.

Following these strikes, Pakistan’s civil and military leadership made it clear that their response—downing jets and targeting an Indian brigade HQ—was not the full extent of their retaliation. A more comprehensive counterstrike remains on the table, intensifying fears of a larger conflict.

Indian media and defense analysts have raised concerns that Pakistan may be preparing for precision strikes inside Indian territory. Journalist and security analyst Aditya Raj Kaul speculated that targets could include Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Jammu & Kashmir—areas sensitive to cross-border tensions. He also suggested Pakistan might justify such strikes by citing alleged Indian-backed militant activity in Balochistan.

Sources within Pakistan’s security apparatus indicated that the downing of Indian aircraft was just the beginning of a broader response strategy. “The real response is yet to come,” a senior Pakistani official warned.

Both countries remain on high alert along the Line of Control and international borders. With diplomatic efforts currently stalled, international observers have voiced serious concerns over the potential for escalation into full-scale conflict.
