Virat Kohli Retires from Test Cricket, Marks End of an Iconic Era

Virat Kohli has officially announced his retirement from Test cricket, closing the chapter on a legendary red-ball career that reshaped India’s global cricketing stature. The 36-year-old last appeared in India’s tour of Australia earlier this year, and international media confirms his decision to step away.

Debuting in 2011 against the West Indies, Kohli played 123 Tests, amassing 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85 with 30 centuries. As captain, he led India to 40 victories in 68 matches—the most by any Indian Test skipper.

Speculation had been circulating about his retirement, with the BCCI reportedly urging him to delay it until the England series, which he declined.

Kohli’s departure coincides with a transitional phase for Indian Test cricket, with Rohit Sharma already out and selectors eyeing younger leaders. While his Test journey ends, Kohli continues in ODIs, leaving behind a legacy that inspired a generation and reignited passion for the longest format.
