Pakistani Schengen Visa Applications Decline Amid High Rejection Rates
As of 2025, Pakistani passport holders still require a visa to enter the Schengen Area, with recent data revealing increasing challenges for applicants aiming to travel to Europe. In 2024, Pakistani residents filed 78,362 Schengen visa applications, marking a 9.61% decrease compared to the previous year. This accounts for just 0.67% of all Schengen visa requests globally.
Austria was identified as the most difficult Schengen country for Pakistani applicants, registering a high visa rejection rate of 83.55%. In 2024 alone, Pakistani residents spent approximately €6.27 million on Schengen visa applications, of which over €2.8 million was lost due to rejected requests. Since 2014, the European Union has collected nearly €60 million from Pakistani visa applicants.
