The government has launched a Rs180 million upgrade project for Skardu International Airport, aiming to enhance air connectivity and stimulate economic growth in Gilgit-Baltistan. This initiative marks a key step in improving access to the scenic northern region and integrating it more closely with the rest of Pakistan.
The development is being planned by Swiss consultancy firm Intairplan, in collaboration with Pakistani experts. Once the design phase is complete, construction is expected to begin within the next year. The project aims to transform Skardu into a central hub for tourism and trade.
Improved airport infrastructure is expected to make travel easier for both domestic and international tourists, giving a major boost to the local hospitality and travel industries. It will also create opportunities for local farmers, artisans, and traders to connect with larger markets.
