The Islamic month of Muharram is expected to commence in Pakistan on Friday, June 27, based on current moon sighting forecasts. If the prediction holds true, Ashura — the 10th of Muharram — will fall on Sunday, July 6.

Traditionally, Pakistan observes public holidays on the 9th and 10th of Muharram. However, this year, both dates coincide with the weekend (Saturday and Sunday), which means that government employees may not receive any additional weekdays off.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, under the leadership of Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, is scheduled to convene in Quetta on Thursday to confirm the moon sighting for Muharram. Zonal committees will also meet in major cities including Lahore.

Muharram is a sacred month for Muslims, marked by solemn processions and religious gatherings, especially on the 9th and 10th, to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions at Karbala.
