Laptop Mag, a trusted name in consumer technology journalism for over three decades, has officially ceased operations. The announcement was made in a staff meeting led by Faisal Alani, Global Brand Director at Future PLC, the company that owns the publication.
According to reports by The Verge, Alani stated:
“After careful consideration and a review of our long-term strategy, we’ve decided to close the Laptop Mag business effective today.”
Laptop Mag originally launched in 1991 under the name Laptop Buyers Guide and Handbook by Bedford Communications. Over the years, it became a key source for laptop reviews, mobile computing trends, and consumer tech insights.

In 2011, it was acquired by TechMedia Network (later rebranded as Purch), and in 2013, the magazine shifted to a digital-only format. Future PLC, the publishing powerhouse behind PC Gamer, Tom’s Guide, and TechRadar, acquired Purch in 2018, bringing Laptop Mag into its portfolio.
Alani expressed gratitude to the outgoing team, saying:
“We are incredibly grateful for your dedication, talent, and contributions to Laptop Mag, and we are committed to supporting you throughout this transition.”
The closure follows a broader trend of consolidation and downsizing within the tech media space, as Future PLC also recently shut down AnandTech, another long-established tech news site.
It remains unclear whether Laptop Mag’s vast digital archives — a significant resource for tech enthusiasts and researchers — will remain publicly accessible. As of now, Future PLC has offered no further statements.
The shutdown marks the end of an era for a publication that helped shape how consumers engage with mobile technology and laptops over the past 30+ years.
