WhatsApp is working on a new AI-driven feature called Quick Recap, which will allow users to generate summaries of unread messages across multiple chats. The feature aims to save users time by offering a concise overview of conversations without scrolling through long threads—while maintaining WhatsApp’s core focus on privacy.
According to a report by WABetaInfo, this upcoming feature will go beyond the existing Message Summaries functionality by allowing users to summarize up to five conversations simultaneously, rather than just one. Quick Recap will be powered by Meta AI, leveraging its advanced capabilities to improve productivity without compromising data security.
To activate the feature, users will be able to select specific chats, tap the three-dot menu on the top right, and choose Quick Recap. The summary will be generated within WhatsApp using Meta’s Private Processing technology, ensuring that the original message content remains encrypted and unreadable to both Meta and WhatsApp.

Importantly, Quick Recap will support both individual and group chats, but it will exclude conversations protected under ‘Advanced Chat Privacy’—a move that respects user preferences for excluding AI assistance in sensitive discussions.
The feature was spotted in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.25.21.12, but it’s still under development and not yet available even to beta testers. It is expected to roll out gradually to beta users in upcoming updates, followed by a public release on Android. There is no word yet on if or when it will be introduced for iOS.
This latest update continues WhatsApp’s trend of integrating smart AI features while staying committed to user privacy, helping users manage their conversations more efficiently in today’s fast-paced digital world.
