Internet services across Pakistan were restored on Wednesday morning after a major fault in PTCL’s distribution network caused widespread disruptions for nearly eight hours. The outage impacted large portions of the country, particularly affecting users of PTCL and its mobile subsidiary, Ufone.
A PTCL spokesperson confirmed that the issue had been fully resolved, with both PTCL and Ufone services now functioning normally. The company thanked users for their patience during the downtime.
Sources indicated that the disruption originated late Tuesday night in PTCL’s network infrastructure in Karachi. Technical teams worked overnight and managed to fix the fault by around 5 a.m. on Wednesday. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) also assisted in the restoration process.

PTA officials clarified that the entire PTCL network was not fully offline, but certain segments experienced serious disruptions. While alternative providers like Transworld and Multinet continued operating normally, services dependent on PTCL’s backbone were significantly affected.
Global internet monitoring group NetBlocks confirmed the outage, reporting via its X (formerly Twitter) account that 20% of Pakistan’s internet connectivity was impacted, with PTCL bearing the brunt of the failure.
