The Palestinian group Hamas has strongly indicated that it will not accept US President Donald Trump’s proposed Gaza peace plan, dismissing it as an initiative designed to serve Israel’s interests while disregarding Palestinian rights.

The 20-point framework includes a demand for Hamas to disarm and surrender its weapons, along with the deployment of an International Stabilisation Force (ISF) in Gaza. Hamas has condemned these provisions as “a new form of occupation,” sparking further tensions.

While Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and several Western leaders have backed the plan, Hamas remains deeply divided. Qatar’s foreign ministry confirmed the group is reviewing the proposal, but insiders report splits within its leadership: military commander Ez al-Din al-Haddad is pressing for armed resistance, while leaders outside Gaza—already sidelined—struggle for influence.

Other Palestinian factions have also rejected the plan, with concerns over a buffer zone proposed along the Egypt-Gaza border. Hamas fears that Israeli involvement in administering the zone could effectively expand occupation.

Meanwhile, President Trump has issued a four-day deadline for Hamas to respond, warning of “severe consequences” if the proposal is rejected. Despite support from Israel and some Arab states, Hamas remains unlikely to agree, with Trump remarking, “Hamas is either going to be doing it or not—and if not, it’s going to be a very sad end.”
