Pakistan international calls regulation is set to transform the country’s telecom landscape as the government directs the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority to develop a new framework for monitoring incoming overseas calls.
The move comes as part of a broader strategy to enhance government revenue, strengthen national security, and improve transparency in international telecom operations. Authorities believe that tighter control over inbound call traffic will help address long-standing inefficiencies in the system.
Role of LDI Operators
Currently, all international calls entering Pakistan are routed through Long Distance International (LDI) operators, which act as the official gateway for cross-border communication.
Under the proposed system, these operators will play an expanded role, with stricter monitoring and accountability measures introduced to ensure that all incoming traffic is properly recorded and regulated.
Why the Regulation Matters
The initiative is expected to deliver several key benefits:
- Revenue Growth: Eliminating illegal “grey traffic” and ensuring proper taxation of international calls
