According to Information Minister Ataullah Tarar, Pakistani forces carried out intelligence-based strikes against militant hideouts and infrastructure located along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The operation reportedly destroyed several key targets, including training facilities and ammunition depots used by militant groups responsible for attacks inside Pakistan.
Tarar stated that the operation successfully neutralized at least 26 militants and was aimed at safeguarding Pakistan’s national security. He emphasized that while Pakistan remains committed to regional peace and stability, protecting its citizens remains the government’s highest priority.
Operation Follows Deadly Border Attack
The strikes were launched shortly after militants attacked a Pakistani border security post, killing six paramilitary personnel and abducting several others. Pakistani authorities blamed the assault on militant groups operating from Afghan territory, a concern Islamabad has repeatedly raised with Kabul.
Officials argue that cross-border militant sanctuaries continue to pose a major security threat, particularly in Pakistan’s northwestern regions bordering Afghanistan. The latest operation is part of broader efforts to disrupt terrorist networks and prevent future attacks.
Afghanistan Reports Civilian Casualties
While Pakistan maintains that the strikes targeted militant infrastructure, Taliban authorities in Afghanistan have alleged that the attacks also caused civilian casualties. Afghan officials claimed that 13 civilians, including 11 children, were killed and several others injured in strikes conducted in the provinces of Khost, Kunar, and Paktika.
The differing accounts highlight the ongoing dispute between Islamabad and Kabul regarding military operations near the shared border. Pakistan insists that the operation was carefully planned and directed solely at terrorist elements, while Afghan authorities have condemned the strikes and accused Pakistan of violating Afghan sovereignty.

Rising Tensions Between Pakistan and Afghanistan
The latest operation reflects growing tensions between the two neighboring countries, which have repeatedly exchanged accusations over the presence of militant groups operating across the border. Relations have remained strained amid increasing security incidents and failed diplomatic efforts to address cross-border militancy.
Security analysts warn that continued militant attacks and retaliatory operations could further complicate relations between Islamabad and Kabul, making regional stability more difficult to achieve. Nevertheless, Pakistani authorities maintain that decisive action against terrorist safe havens is essential for protecting national security and preventing future violence.
Pakistan Reaffirms Commitment to Counterterrorism
The government has reiterated its determination to eliminate terrorist threats wherever they originate, emphasizing that the country will continue taking necessary measures to defend its borders and citizens. Officials say intelligence-led operations will remain a central component of Pakistan’s counterterrorism strategy as security forces confront evolving militant threats.
As the security situation along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border remains volatile, the latest operation underscores Islamabad’s willingness to conduct targeted military actions against groups it believes are responsible for attacks on Pakistani soil.
