A new feature that Google is working on that will turn your Android phone into a webcam is one of the new features it is working on

There is no secret to the fact that the webcams that come with computers are not great in any way, shape or form. There is a very good reason why a lot of people opt to use an external webcam rather than a built-in one. It is true that many people now use their phones as webcams, although this isn’t a new development. In spite of that, I would like to let you know that this will require you to install third-party applications. The good piece of information is that the search giant, Google is said to be working on a way to turn your Android phones into webcams.

It has recently been revealed via Twitter that Android analyst Mishaal Rahman may be able to add support for turning Android handsets into USB webcams in the near future. The data was found in the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) repository, where the following data has been found:

For those of you who do not know about the AOSP project, I would like to provide you with some information. The AOSP project is an open-source operating system development project maintained by Google for the stock Android operating system. In addition to that, AOSP, under the direction and oversight of Google, allows anyone to review and contribute code and fixes under its control.’

According to the reports, the “DeviceAsWebcam” service has actually been elaborated as an actual new service that will be able to turn an Android device into a webcam through the transformation of its application. There is a possibility that this service will work on Android devices that support the UVC (USB video class) gadget mode, which can actually be used for sending video data to and from Android devices.

As a point of fact, it is worth mentioning that turning your Android smartphone into a webcam isn’t necessarily something that is going to be new for Android users. I am sure that you are aware that there are many applications that can help accomplish that goal, as I have already told you. This would, however, be the first time that Android would be capable of turning your phone into a UVC gadget without the help of any third-party apps in order to do so.

As a result, the question arises as to when you will be able to utilize this new feature on your gadget of choice? This feature will be included in a future OS update whether Google decides to add it or not. However, if you want to use the new functionality as soon as possible, your device’s kernel must first be compiled with CONFIG_USB_CONFIGFS_F_UVC=y before you can use the new functionality. After that, you would still technically need an app or service for it to work.
