Absence of Chairman causes bad deals and delayed decisions

The position of Chairman and member (compliance & enforcement) for Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is still remained vacant for about one year which is affecting the performance of the Authority. Now, in this regard the current government has initiated the process to appoint a new chairman.
Not to know, the previous government failed to appoint a suitable candidate for this post, though they had advertised the position.

Now, the Cabinet Division has asked for fresh applications from suitable Pakistanis for the post of Member (Technical) in PTA on open merit. In addition, applications for the post of Member Compliance & Enforcement are also required by the Cabinet Division.

In a fast developing division like the telecom sector in Pakistan,it is the need of hour to look for more qualified and better human resources for this position from the market.

On the other hand, according to the fresh criteria for the post, there is no mention or requirement of registration with Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) for degree.

The appointed candidate as members shall be paid the salary and be entitled to the rights of an officer in MP-II scale (Rs.181500-27, 225-290,400).

Qualification and experience required for the post of member (Compliance & Enforcement)

You can apply formember (Compliance & Enforcement), if you have Ph.D / professional charter in Business/Finance/ Regulatory Economics / Administration/ Corporate management / Telecommunication / Computer Sciences /Information Technology from Foreign/local Institutions with 15 years experience plus five years experience at the top management level or Master Degree in above disciplines or LLM from a foreign or local university with 18 years relevant experience in public / private sector.

The selection and appointment would be on open merit basis for the posts of member (Technical) and member (Compliance & Enforcement) in PTA.

Qualification and experience required for the post of member (Technical)

You can apply for member (Technical), if you have PhD in Telecom, Electronics or Electrical Engineering with major in Telecommunications, with fifteen (15) years relevant experience in a responsible position in public or private sector, or (b) MSc /M.S (Electrical/ Electronics/Telecommunications Engineering with major in Telecommunications or in a related discipline.

Moreover, you must possess a minimum of eighteen (18) years experience in a responsible position in public /private sector. However, the preference would be given to the candidate who has experience of working in the field of Telecommunications/ Regulatory organization.

It is important to know that the selected candidates shall not have business connection with any person, any establishment or firm that delivers telecommunication services in Pakistan or abroad, and supplies telecommunication tools to any telecommunication sector in Pakistan or abroad.
