In October 2022, a massive fire broke out in the food court of Islamabad’s Centaurus Mall, which remained closed for a few weeks.
The mall’s management successfully met structural and safety requirements after the Chainstore Association of Pakistan (CAP) requested its reopening from the CDA.
A fact-finding committee led by an Additional District Magistrate found that cooking oils and other inflammatory materials caused the fire to spread rapidly.
Irfan Nawaz Memon, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad, ordered the building to be sealed indefinitely following the incident.
According to Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police, everyone was safely evacuated from the building.
