A senior reporter from the United States Soccer Federation, Grant Wahl, has passed away after collapsing while he was covering the quarter-finals of the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

It has been reported that the 48-year-old man passed away during Argentina’s match against the Netherlands, as per reports. However, in the Wall Street Journal, it was reported that Wahl had suffered a heart attack and died as a result.

We are devastated to learn that Grant, along with his brilliant writing, will no longer be with us. He made soccer his life’s work, and we are devastated that he will no longer be able to do so. “It is a heartbreaking day for everyone in the US Soccer family.”

A few days earlier, Wahl had written on his website, “My body finally broke down on me. The effects of three weeks of little sleep, high levels of stress, and lots of work can be quite devastating. As my upper chest began to tighten and feel uncomfortable, I felt a new level of pressure and discomfort taking over my body.”

With a career spanning decades on Sports Illustrated and CBS Sports, the 48-year-old reporter is credited with helping to build soccer’s popularity in the United States through his vivid reporting over the years.
