Apple is Planning to Bring a 5G Update to iPhones by December

Apple is planning to bring a 5G update to its iPhones by December after testing and validating the devices for the 5G network. The Cupertino giant had earlier said that its 2020 iPhone lineup would be compatible with 5G networks but without specifying any timeline. As per the latest report from ETTelecom Apple is expected to launch 4 new iPhone models this year with OLED screens and dual rear cameras. The company will reportedly start mass production of these devices from July itself. Moreover, all these phones are said to come equipped with Qualcomm’s X55 modem which supports both mmWave and sub-6GHz frequencies used in India. However, it remains to be seen how fast Apple’s 5G network would be as compared to what we have seen from other networks so far.

Airtel has already revealed the list of supported 5G handsets from various brands, including Samsung, Realme Xiaomi Vivo iQOO OPPO etc. This covers the Android side of things but what about iPhones you ask Well here’s some bad news. Even though all iPhones above iPhone 12 have support for 5G they won’t be able to utilize it until a software update arrives which as per the latest report from ETTelecom will be happening in December 2020 itself. After testing and validating the devices for the 5G network Apple is working on pushing an iOS software update that will enable support for fifth-generation wireless technology on current devices said the report citing people familiar with the development. So if you own an iPhone 12 iPhone 12 Pro or even an older model rest assured that you will be able to use 5G services once Apple releases its iOS software update later this year.

OEMs need to push a software update that will enable 5G access

Despite having a compatible phone for accessing the newly launched Fifth Generation or popularly known as ‘5G’ mobile networks Original Equipment Manufacturers or OEMs need to push a software update that will ultimately enable users experience superfast data speeds on their smartphones. Industry experts believe that such an approach would help manage end user expectations apart from ensuring seamless connectivity experience on select ‘5GE’ capable handsets much before actual nationwide deployment of next-generation technology happen in India. Do remember that while some telcos have started calling their ‘Enhanced 4G LTE Network’ as ‘5GE’ it doesn’t offer true Fifth Generation mobile experience or speeds as being rolled out in South Korea United States and other countries said Faisal Kawoosa Chief Analyst Founder TEF insights adding strategy seems more around creating hype than anything else’. So there’s that!
