It would come as a major surprise if we don’t see a Qualcomm-powered 5G iPhone next year or indeed by 2021. This is the case because recently, Apple took upon itself to end all litigation against Qualcomm, as the company signed a six year deal with the chipmaker.

Now though, with regards to the latest speculation, Apple is putting no limit to its ambitions as the company looks to release an iPhone which will be powered by the company’s very own 5G modem – and there comes the suggestion that Apple is looking to achieve this goal in the coming three years – by 2022. And while this does not at all seem impossible, it very ambitious when consider the fact that Apple has no experience at all when it comes to the creation of its own modems.

Not so long ago we came across the rumors which suggested that Apple’s 5G iPhone modem – which would have been created by Intel – was more than five years away from being commercially ready. Now, it seems that Apple is confident that it can achieve this goal in a much shorter period of time.

In any case however, even if Apple doesn’t manage to pull it all off by 2022, it won’t be the end of the world for the company as it can quite easily and comfortably rely on modems provided by Qualcomm in for its iPhones for the foreseeable future. Of course, the prospect of Apple having its own modem does bring about the element of excitement, however, the last thing that it would want is to push out a modem that isn’t up to the standards – or perhaps one that doesn’t have the capabilities to work as well and as efficient as those that are provided by Qualcomm. The standards that need to be maintained are high – one of the reasons why Apple put an end to its affiliation with Intel in the first place.

Additionally, there isn’t any expectation anyways from Apple to create its very own modem. It would represent great success if the company manages to achieve its goal, however, if it doesn’t, it already has a lot going its way.
