There has been a revelation from PCB management committee chairman Najam Sethi that the interim selection committee, led by Shahid Afridi, initially intended to replace Babar Azam as Pakistan captain with Shahid Ali.

For the home series against New Zealand earlier this year, the PCB Management Committee had appointed former Pakistan captain, Shahid Afridi, as the interim Chair of the Men’s National Selection Committee to oversee the preparation of the men’s team.

Besides Abdul Razzaq and Rao Iftikhar Anjum, the panel also included Abdul Razzaq and Haroon Rashid (member of the Management Committee) who served as convener.

As Sethi stated to a YouTube channel when he spoke about the selectors’ decision to continue with Babar as skipper, the selectors later changed their minds.

“I say it again and again. There is no way I would make a decision such as this [changing captain] by myself. According to Sethi, he takes advice from people who he trusts and who he puts his trust in.

The interim selection committee was formed when we took over the leadership of the organization. Before the selectors came on board, we were told that some changes will need to be made and that Babar will have to be replaced as captain as well as there will need to be some changes. In spite of this, as soon as they were appointed, they said there was no need to replace Babar as soon as they were appointed. In addition, I told them that if you change your mind, you are entitled to do so,” he told them.

In the aftermath of the New Zealand series, Afridi decided to resign from his post due to a lack of time for meetings and a lack of time for the game.

As a result, Haroon Rashid was later appointed by PCB as the Chair of the men’s National Selection Committee, replacing Afridi as the national selection committee chair.
