It has been reported by ARY News that the Kenyan authorities have opened an investigation into the fatal gun attack in which Sharif was killed.

There is a wife and five children that he leaves behind to take care of.

The FIRs (first information reports) were published earlier this year on the charges of sedition and peddling an “anti-state” narrative against three reporters – Arshad Sharif, Sabir Shakir, and Sami Ibrahim – who had been being charged with sedition.

In several districts of Sindh and Balochistan, police have received complaints about journalists who have been facing similar charges and have filed cases against them.

It is alleged in the First Information Reports (FIRs) that the journalists were maligning Pakistan Army and state institutions in order to stir anti-national sentiments among the residents of the districts concerned.

During his tenure as anchor of ARY News in the early 2000s, Arshad Sharif was charged with a crime at a police station in Hyderabad under its B-section.

I am striking a raw nerve with this piece ‘Striking the raw nerve’

It has come to the attention of the rights activists, journalists, and politicians that the FIRs registered against three journalists may be construed as an attempt to muzzle the press, based on similar charges and a similar pattern.

In response to what appeared to be a coordinated effort on the part of the powers that be in order to silence dissent, journalists and activists had noted in their writings that individuals who had previously been in the good books of the powers that be, had now become the “enemies of the state” for having struck their “raw nerve” with their criticism.

We pray that Allah rests the soul of this great man in peace and gives him the highest position in the Janat Ameen.
