Bute House prayers led by Scotland’s First Minister Humza Yousaf

It was the first night in Bute House for Humza Yousaf, the newly appointed First Minister of Scotland of Pakistani heritage, that led the prayer on his first night in the official residence.

In the wake of being sworn in as Scotland’s newest Prime Minister on Monday, Yousaf had relocated to his official house with his family after winning the election to become the country’s newest Prime Minister. 

In the aftermath of his legislative success, the 37-year-old shared a memorable moment with his family by posting a few photos on Twitter showing him sitting beside his family and leading the prayer at Bute House with the rest of the household.

There are four people in Yousaf’s immediate family: his parents, Muzaffer Yousaf and Shaista Bhutta, as well as his wife, Nadia, and two daughters.

It is a customary practice during Ramadan to lead the male members of the family in prayer following the break of fast with each other. After that day’s parliamentary vote, the new Scottish leader announced that he as well as his family were spending the first evening in Bute House together.
