Elon Musk decides to redefine battery technology

Elon Musk decides to redefine battery technology Tesla is advancing with its plans to get into the music streaming business according to the reports. A Recode report has suggested that Tesla is in talks with music record labels about creating its music streaming service that will be included in its high-end electric cars. The report claims Tesla is on the way to offer multiple tiers of service, that is starting with a Pandora-like web radio offering.

“We believe it’s important to have an exceptional in-car experience so our customers can listen to the music they want from whatever source they choose,” says a Tesla spokesperson “Our goal is to simply achieve maximum happiness for our customers.”

The plan to launch a music streaming service just appears to be an odd decision. In Europe, for example, Tesla has a deal with Spotify, already. According to the previous reports  Tesla might integrate Spotify into its US cars.

Tesla’s move may surprise many though, Elon Musk has been known for being unpredictable.  Musk would not be interested in integrating Spotify or Apple Music into its electric cars, which already has a radically designed dashboard that is coupled with a touchscreen and internet connectivity.

Business Insider notes that Elon Musk had touched upon the subject earlier this month during a meeting with shareholders. He  wants to explore more options as he finds it “difficult to find good playlist or good matching algorithm”.

As per the numbers, Spotify and Apple Music both are popular music streaming services with 50 mn and 27 mn paid subscribers, respectively.  Spotify has recently reported that it has more than 140 million active subscribers, making it one of the most popular music streaming service.

Elon Musk’s Tesla which has sold more than 100,000 cars till date, may find it tough to convince drivers to utilise its own streaming service over Spotify or Apple Music for which they have been already paying. With a pupil to create a custom music streaming service, Tesla requires to integrate the service tightly with its cars. Also, it has now to offer something that is new which differentiates it from the competition.
