The recent UN General Assembly address has seen many world leaders raise the Kashmir issue, among the notables was Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan. He was straightforward and didn’t try to butter up the words, rather, chose to speak with his heart on the human rights violations currently happening in Kashmir. He laid stress on how the peace of the entirety of south asia was dependent on the peace of Kashmir and without it, there will always be something waiting to be triggered. He mentioned the Kashmir issue and the disappointing reaction of the international community in the following words

In order for the Kashmiri people to look at a safe future together with their Pakistani and Indian neighbors, it is imperative to solve the problem through dialogue and on the basis of justice and equity, but not through collision,Despite the resolutions adopted, [India-occupied] Kashmir is still besieged and eight million people are stuck in Kashmir,The invasions, conflicts and terrorist activities for almost four decades in Afghanistan have led to instability in the region.

He issued a rallying call for all countries to step up their works in trying to encourage India to stop the atrocities that it has been carrying on the people of Kashmir. This was highly appreciated by PM Khan who later tweeted

I thank Turkey’s President Erdogan for raising the issue of IOJK in the UN General Assembly & calling for a solution to this long-standing dispute. Referring to the siege of IOJK, he pointed out that despite UN resolutions, 8 million people are stuck in IOJK. I appreciate President Erdogan’s statement that the stability and prosperity of South Asia cannot be separated from the Kashmir issue.

However, the unfortunate reality remains of how countries have been increasing their adoration of Modi despite it all…
