The European Parliament ratified new rules on Tuesday, which will establish within the European Union one charging port for tablets, mobile phones and cameras, by 2024. an unprecedented move that is expected to impact iPhone maker Apple more then its competitors.

The vote is a confirmation of an earlier agreement between EU institutions and will establish USB Type-C ports used by Android-based devices as the EU standard, requiring Apple to modify its charging port to work with iPhone models and other devices.

Of the top companies that sell electronic devices to European consumers, Apple is expected to be one of the most affected, however analysts anticipate a positive effect since it may encourage customers to buy Apple’s new gadgets over those which do not come with USB Type-C.

The agreement also covers earbuds, e-readers as well as other devices so it could be a factor for Samsung, Huawei, and other makers of devices, experts claimed.
