Federal Minister of Science and Technology, Fawad Chaudhry, announced that a memorandum has been signed between Pakistan Sports Board and Pakistan Science Foundation after which E-Sports will get an official sports standing.
“If you are interested in video games, prepare yourself and fresh opportunities are waiting for you,” he wrote on Twitter.
Back in November, Fawad Chaudhry declared a special program of animation and video games to encourage young folks to participate in their multi-billion dollar gaming market.
The gaming industry is one of the most profitable and innovative sectors in technology today. Video gaming market is forecast to be worth more than $200 billion by 2023, based on Statista.
Despite the constant growth in the gaming industry worldwide, Pakistan falls short in terms of developing video games along with providing opportunities to developers.
The initiative comes timely as spending on digital video games hit on a record-high $10 billion in 2020 as people stuck at home under coronavirus lockdowns switched to gambling, reported market tracker SuperData.
