Samsung has gone on to announce its Galaxy Chromebook 2 – a fresh take on the company’s Ultra-slim Chromebook series. While last year’s Chromebook was indeed very impressive, flaunting its 4K screen, this year’s machine dials things back so as to reach a lower price point.

The Korean manufacturer claims that it is targeting a different class of users with respect to the Galaxy Chromebook 2. The original Galaxy Chromebook of course unabashedly targeted the very top end of the Chromebook market. The sequel hopes to appeal hopes to be of great appeal for these who have in fact started with low-end chromebooks and now want more bang for their buck. Nonetheless, it still remains to be a rather premium device. The Koran manufacturer though does insist that the Galaxy Chromebook 2 packs premium sound, powerful performance and also more comfortable typing : all in an ultra-slim profile.

The outer portions of the chassis happen to be aluminum, but Samsung though has confirmed that it switched to plastic on the inner sections. This led to the cutting down of both weight as well as cost. The machine comes in with a weight of 2.71lbs and measures just half an inch thick. Samsung has also improved the typing experience with a smidge over the backlit keys. The Chromebook 2 makes its way in both red as well as gray.

The screen still goes on to measure in at 13.3 inches however, the resolution has actually been reduced from 4K to Full HD. Much more importantly though, the display relies on QLED technology. While the switch to QLED doesn’t exactly necessarily offset the loss that is presented with respect to the resolution, but it does in fact help in one particular area : battery life. While the Korean manufacturer didn’t lead us on with any battery claims, the fact of the matter is that the change up with respect to the screen more or less guarantees a dramatic improvement.
