Galaxy s9 finger sensor found to stop responding after a whileon many devices, requires a reboot to fix. Samsung faced a lot of criticism about the location of the fingerprint sensor on the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. By getting lesson from previous experience, the company promptly fixed it in the Galaxy S9 and S9+ at new position.

However, it seems that the victory was to be short-lived as many users across some forums such as Reddit and XDA Developers are reporting and complaining that the fingerprint sensor on their phone stops responding from time to time.

At the moment, the only unfailing fix to the problem, seems to be a reboot of the devices.

Well, it seems that the problem is originated from a software bug, rather than a broken fingerprint sensor. On the other hand, not all devices appear to be affected. As, some users are also reporting a similar problem on their Pixel 2 XL devices as well.

Interestingly, it could very well be spat resulting from the March security update that was recently rolled out.

We all know that monthly security updates have had a history of breaking more things than they planned to fix. There are chances that now it could be fingerprint sensor that fell victim to the update’s Spaghetti code.

However, Samsung didn’t make an official statement on the matter, and it looks like the subject is being investigated by company.

If you’re facing the same issue then a temporary fix involves disabling fingerprint sensor gestures (accessible in the Settings » Advanced features menu), which allow you swipe down on the sensor to access the notification shade and then swipe up to open Samsung Pay.

At the moment this solution is perfect but given the rate of recurrence at which the fingerprint sensor stops responding, might be the just one we have.

On the other side, it will be best if it’s just a minor flaw that can be fixed with an OTA update. A hardware trouble could bring trouble for Samsung’s latest flagship.

Moreover, this issue will very possibly set off a mass recall of the affected devices.

Meanwhile, do let us know in the comments section if the fingerprint sensor on your Galaxy S9, S9+ is working perfect.
