Well, you know what they say, its not human errors we only need to worry about anymore with technology now becoming more dependent as it starts to stop relying on humans. Didn’t get it? When we design the latest tech, we make it as independent as possible, however technology is still error prone and will get you in trouble when we start depending on it way more than we are supposed to. A little something just recently happened with Google maps guiding drivers to a shortcut which ended up being a huge mess for 100 or so drivers that followed the instructions.

A crash on Pena Boulevard, led to Google maps providing an alternate route to the Denver International Airport in the United States, unfortunately for those who followed it ended up in a field with nowhere to go.  The alternate route provided by Google maps was made soggy because of rain and now the people had to deal with their cars from slipping off track and since this was a single vehicle track, the slippage of a few cars caused about 100 cars to become trapped behind them. As amusing as this news sounds right now, it was quite frustrating for people who were left stranded in the middle of nowhere. One of the drivers stuck reported CNN,

I thought ‘maybe there’s a detour’ and pulled it up on Google Maps, and it gave me a a detour that was half the time,” she said. “It was 43 minutes initially, and it was going to be 23 instead — so I took the exit and drove where they told me to.

“There were a bunch of other cars going down [the dirt road] too, so I said, ‘I guess it’s OK.’ It was not OK.”

Google were quick to issue a statement regarding the matter,

“We take many factors into account when determining driving routes, including the size of the road and the directness of the route,” the company said in a statement. “While we always work to provide the best directions, issues can arise due to unforeseen circumstances such as weather. We encourage all drivers to follow local laws, stay attentive, and use their best judgment while driving.”

Not a good day to be considering technology as the future for humankind, is it?
