Here are the Top 5 smartphone chip makers in Q2 2022

This research report, which was recently released by Strategy Analytics Mobile Component Technology (HCT), indicates that the global smartphone application processor market revenue grew by 26% to $8.9 billion in 2022 Q2 as a result of Qualcomm’s recent record high sales of smartphones application processors. Among the top five smartphone application processor manufacturers ranked by revenue share for smartphone application processors, Qualcomm, MediaTek, Apple, Samsung LSI and ZTE topped the list.

With a revenue share of 40 percent, Qualcomm remains the market leader in the smartphone application processors market, followed by MediaTek (26 percent) and Apple (25.5 percent).

By the end of the second quarter of 2022, 55% of smartphone application processor shipments will be accounted for by 5G application processors.

It is worth mentioning that according to Shrivan Kundojjala, director of mobile component technology services at Strategy Analytics and author of the report, the company’s smartphone application processor revenue grew 41 percent in Q2 2022 as Qualcomm gained a competitive edge in the high-end Android space, despite a 23 percent drop in shipments. It is anticipated that Qualcomm’s application processor ASP will reach an all-time high in the second half of 2022 due to the volume of orders for Samsung’s Galaxy S22, but the company will be facing headwinds from inventory corrections in the first half of 2022. In the mid-range market, the Samsung LSI Exynos processors, which are used in the majority of smartphones, saw a decline of 46 percent year-over-year, but showed signs of a rebound in the top end.

Moreover, Kundojjala also stated that the Q2 2022 is expected to be the best Q2 in the history of MediaTek’s application processor business, driven by a mix of high-end and ultra-high-end Tiangui 5G application processors. As a result of continued weak Android application processor sales in China, it is expected that MediaTek’s shipments and revenue in the second half of 2022 will decline due to continuing weakness in the application processor market in China. As opposed to this, we noted that ZTE’s shipment of 4G smartphones grew by 26% in Q2 2022 due to a continued increase in T1 4G phones.”
