Instagram may be gearing up to enhance its musical integration, according to recent discoveries by mobile developer Alessandro Paluzzi. Paluzzi uncovered a potential new feature in Instagram’s code that suggests the platform is exploring real-time Spotify integration.
This possible update indicates that Instagram users could soon have automatic Notes generated on their profiles based on their current Spotify listening activity. These Notes, which would be prominently displayed at the top of a user’s inbox and profile picture, would offer visitors a snapshot of the user’s current musical preferences. While Instagram has not officially confirmed this feature, Paluzzi’s findings hint at a more seamless integration between the social media giant and the popular music streaming service.

The idea of real-time music integration isn’t entirely new. Discord, a popular app among gamers, already offers a similar feature. Instagram users can already share their Spotify tracks manually on Stories or within Notes, so this proposed feature would be an extension of existing capabilities.
However, a key consideration is user behavior. Unlike Discord, where users often stay logged in for extended periods, Instagram is generally used in shorter bursts for browsing and sharing. This raises questions about how valuable and widely adopted real-time music integration might be within Instagram’s ecosystem. It’s important to note that this feature has only been spotted in Instagram’s code, so it may still be some time before it becomes available to the public.
