Iranian Film Festival to start from 22 Jan

A five-day film festival titled “Iranian Film Festival” will held in Mumbai to collaboratively celebrate the culture and cinema of Iran and India.

The film festival will start from January 22nd and will continue till January 26.

5 films have been selected for the screening at the fest including the Indo-Iran collaborative film “Hello Mumbai” that features Bollywood actress Dia Mirza and popular Iranian actor Mohammad Reza Golzar.

On Friday, while interacting with the media, Mahdi Zare, the director of the Culture House of the Iran, says “The idea of organising this festival is to create a platform for cultural exchange between two countries — India and Iran.”

The screening is decided to take place at the Ravindra Mini Theatre.

According to Mahdi Zare it is a positive sign that how Iranian people are taking interest in Indian films. He says that it is great to observe how Indian film lovers are also have started watching Iranian cinema.

Mahdi Zare adds to his statement telling us that through this festival, they are in want of spreading out the beauty of Iranian cinema to the people of Mumbai. He also adds that every cinema is responsible to manifest the society and culture of its country and during the inaugural programme, Mahdi plans to show a 20-minute film on Iran to give an overview of the country and Iranian culture, society. They have been looking forward to host cinema lovers to watch films.

The fest has been organised by the Culture House of the Islamic Republic of Iran & Federation of Film Societies of India.

Azar Faramarzi says that like any other country, the common people prefer to watch “masala films” in Iran and, that’s why they like Bollywood.

According to his words, there in Iran, common people love watching Indian cinema because of its song-dance saga. They like to watch vibrant colours, festival, celebration that most of the mainstream Bollywood does show.

Small budget, as per Azar, story-driven art house films are for students, festival moviegoers and common people. Azar travelled to cities like Mumbai, Pune and Agra and is currently planning to make a film set in India.

This festival will be creating a platform to undertake a conversation between two countries not only on creative collaboration but also on business networking.

 Whether it is Majid Majidi’s “Beyond the cloud”, Ghorban Mohammadpour’s “Hello Mumbai”, the opportunity for collaboration of cine-cult celebrations is opening.
