Is the ICC T20 World Cup Trophy Tour Arriving in Pakistan?

Reports are swirling with excitement as there’s a strong possibility that the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup trophy might grace the shores of Pakistan next month. Media outlets indicate that the trophy is slated to arrive by the end of the upcoming month, with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) currently in talks to finalize the dates for its tour. The PCB is particularly eager to showcase the T20 trophy during the Pakistan-New Zealand series, commencing on April 18. Notably, the New Zealand squad comprises predominantly young players due to the absence of some key players. The team touched down in Pakistan on Sunday.

Prior to its potential journey to Pakistan, the T20 World Cup trophy is set to continue its tour in the West Indies until April 20. Following this, it will make its way to Pakistan. Sources indicate that the exact date for the trophy tour in Pakistan will be determined by next week.

The road to the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup poses several challenges for Pakistan’s men’s T20I cricket team, with a series of matches scheduled across various locations before the main event in the US and the West Indies. The national team is gearing up for twelve T20Is in total – five against New Zealand (at home), three against Ireland (away), and four against England (away) – ahead of their departure for the prestigious T20 mega-event in June.

In recent developments, the PCB has reaffirmed Babar Azam’s leadership role by appointing him once again as the captain of the white-ball team. Azam is slated to take on the responsibility of opening the innings in the shortest format of the sport.
