Leak: Xiaomi Plans a New Unit to Improve Its Smartphones’ Cameras

Leak Xiaomi Plans a New Unit to Improve Its Smartphones’ Cameras. In a bid to launch smartphones with better photography prowess, the Chinese handset manufacturer Xiaomi is planning to establish a new camera division, reportedly.

Affordable smartphones with good combination of specs is the cause of popularity of Xiaomi, over the past few years. But that popularity is not associated with Xiaomi’s cameras,  because the company have never made a significant mark in this term. Now Xiaomi’s is getting prepared to compete with its rival Chinese OEMs such as Oppo and Vivo as they have always been a step ahead by being more inclined towards unveiled smartphones having premium camera features.

A Chinese site My Drivers has reported that an internal email from Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has suggested that the company is working to establish a new camera department in its mobile division. Lei Jun’s reported statement also suggest that Xiaomi is making smartphone cameras its top priority from now.

The leaked email has detailed the way photography and camera capabilities have become a major factor for customers. Jun wants a separate division within the company’s mobile division,  to manufacture handsets with stellar cameras that compete with top brands of the future.

We can say that Xiaomi wants to take on companies like Samsung, Apple, and Google, about its smartphones’ camera prowess. However the initial attempt of Xiaomi will be to take on its Chinese competitors like Huawei, Oppo, and Vivo.

Xiaomi’s Mi MIX 2S launched this year, packing premium cameras that resulted in the smartphone scores up to an impressive overall score of 97 on camera review website DxOMark – on par with the iPhone X & Huawei Mate 10 Pro. The premium camera phone had also received a score of 101 in photography, while 88 in videography.

As to compete with the flagships from technology giants, the mid range smartphone maker Xiaomi does not only need good specifications, but a great camera too, and the new camera division of the company appears to be a fresh step in that direction.
