LG shows off the World’s largest OLED display even taller than Tom Cruise

LG Display announced that they have developed the world’s first largest flexible and transparent display. The UHD (Ultra High Definition) display was made as part of a Korean government project. LG announced today that it’s produced the world’s primary flexible, transparent 77-inch OLED display. That’s one giant display. Taller, in fact, than Tom Cruise.

LG announced the achievement of the project this Thursday. The display which took almost 5 years to be developed features an Ultra High Definition resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels and measures 77-inches. The display screen is see-through with 40% transparency and is capable of to be flexed to an 80 mm radius circle.

The display screen was displayed at an event held in Seoul. Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at LG Display Mr. In-Byung Kang stated “The completion of this huge bendy and transparent display is predictable append to expanding new OLED markets,” he added that “LG Display, unlock the way towards the large-sized OLED TV market in 2013 and has been leading the OLED manufacturing industry and will continue to bring novelty to the market”.

LG Display was specially made with the task to build up the display by the South Korea’s Department of Trade, Industry, and Energy. The Korean administration invested totality $110 million for the scheme which was a part Korean National Future Flagship Program.  In 2012, South Korea chose LG Display above Samsung Display for the said assignment.

The display would come across its usages in AR (Augmented Reality) related applications and can also be used in creating infotainment system in automobiles, the company told. The company was just able to build up the initial working mold of the product and the company’s plans to commercialize this product aren’t clear.
