Load Wedding brings both commercial and art cinema features

It is rare to find a movie that serve both commercial and art cinema in best way and in my opinion Load Wedding happens to be one of them. Trust me, it’s a movie that can be enjoyed alone or with family and friends.

The movie has sober plot yet its witty approach makes it perfect feast for eyes. The latest venture is the result of two great people as the movie is directed by Nabeel Qureshi and produced by Fizza Ali Meerza.  They both truly delivered another piece of cinematic art, which has amazingly presented facts with fun.

Apart from humour, the movie does a great justise to address real-life issues plaguing our society. Load Wedding  is a roller coaster of fun and emotions that run from polio campaigns to the marriage to a widow and dowry, all these issues are dark demons of our society.

The best thing about this movie was that unlike other typical Pakistani films that is set in Karachi, Load Wedding takes place in rural Punjab. It delivers the blend of Punjabi comedy humour with emotions.

Fahad Mustafa and Mehwish Hayat are playing lead roles in the film and they really did justice to their characters.

On the other hand, the surprising fact of the movie is supporting cast, as there is no doubt that co-actors really stole the show for me with their flawless acting. So yes, even though Mustafa and Hayat were the stars of the movie, but  supporting cast did a great job as well.

First up is Fizza Hassan, who played Baby Baji and delivers the role of the typical desi ‘nand’ , just like all desi families who got at least one Baby in their family circle. She did a splendid job making the audience admire her, even hate her and sympathise with her.

The second role that stole the show for me was of the attention seeking game show host played by Fahim Khan. Khan’s character who would do absolutely anything for his 15 minutes of fame is a delight to watch. From his impression of Amir Liaquat to his walk on the ramp, everything was perfect.

The movie also delivered cheeky and on point references as we have come to see in previous projects from Qureshi and Meerza.

Imran Bajwa pointed to out the problems that need to be fixed in “Naya Pakistan” to remembering the late Om Puri, in a nutshell  it was well timed, humorous and heart-wrenching.

]Load Wedding can easily be dubbed as the crown jewel for Filmwala Productions, which has definitely set a high bar for Pakistani movies to come.
