After months of speculation, leaks, and teasers, Indus Motor Company (IMC) has officially launched its inaugural locally assembled hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), the Corolla Cross. The debut of the locally produced Corolla Cross Hybrid took place at a line-off ceremony held in Karachi yesterday, attended by Toyota officials and government dignitaries. Mohamedali R. Habib, Chairman of IMC, expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for their support and emphasized the significance of this milestone in showcasing the enduring friendship between Japan and Pakistan.

Yoshiyuki Takai, President of Toyota’s Emerging-market Compact Car Company and Executive Vice President of Toyota Daihatsu Engineering and Manufacturing, addressed the ceremony, highlighting the increasing preference for HEVs among consumers in Asian countries. He expressed hope that Pakistani customers would embrace the Corolla Cross HEV as an attractive, efficient, and exhilarating vehicle, mirroring its success in other markets.

Asad Rehman Gilani, Federal Secretary of the Ministry of Industries and Production, extended congratulations to Toyota for achieving this milestone. He underscored the government’s commitment to supporting the auto sector’s initiatives in introducing hybrid and electric technologies in Pakistan. Gilani also emphasized the importance of expediting exports to reduce the trade deficit.

Ali Asghar Jamali, CEO of IMC, provided insights into the Corolla Cross Hybrid, stating that the vehicle would feature an 1800cc engine, offering options for both hybrid and gasoline drivetrains. The model will be available in variations encompassing both low and high-grade models.

Despite the unveiling, IMC has not disclosed specific details regarding the car’s availability or pricing. A recent viral letter purportedly containing launch and pricing information was refuted by the company, leaving potential buyers eagerly awaiting official updates.
