Have a look at the Cat S61 bigger screened rugged smartphone. Cat phones has unveiled a new flagship just a couple of weeks ago. This new flagship is actually a rugged handset that is expected to hit the shelves at some point during the second quarter of the current year.

The new handset that improves upon its predecessor (S60) with measures does include an enhanced thermal camera and is expected to be priced at £799 or $999.

The Cat S61 follows on from the S60 and boasts a built-in FLIR thermal imaging camera alongside an improved software to give it a greater level of image contrast, as well as an expanded range of temperatures covered up to 400°C.

There has also been an upgrade from VGA resolution –as seen on the S60– to HD when it comes to the details taken from the rear camera to be overlaid on the thermal image.

The company has also given an improvement to this handset with the MyFlir app. This app will allow the users for direct live streaming of the thermal image from their phone.

On the other side the FLIR camera of the Cat S61 also does incorporate an indoor air quality sensor which does detect the presence of air pollutants –VOCs or volatile organic compounds– issuing a warning in case of any dangers found.

There is also another neat feature and that is the ability of the hander for laser-assisted distance measurement and this ability can be used to measure distances of up to 10 meters.

When it comes to be considering core specs, the S61 has a 5.2″ screen with a Full HD resolution that is protected by Gorilla Glass 5. That is a sizeable step up from its predecessor S60 which had a 4.7″ display, and it had been one of tye major issues with the S60.

The S61 has been powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor (octa-core, 2.2GHz). The phone has 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage.

Another major feature of the phone to be concerned is its 16-megapixel rear camera, alongside 8-megapixel front-facing camera. This rugged handset features a 4,500mAh battery.

As the rugged certification for this model is concerned, it adheres to the MIL-STD-810G spec and is said to be IP68 rated. The phone is not only dust proof, but also water resistant. The quality of water resistance works to a depth of up to 3 meters for one hour.
