Pakistan Partners with Meta on ‘Take It Down’ Initiative to Remove Inappropriate Images
Pakistan has reached an agreement with Meta to implement the “Take It Down” initiative, a new tool designed to remove inappropriate images from social media platforms.
The “Take It Down” tool targets issues such as revenge porn, which has increasingly affected teenagers by damaging their mental health, reputations, and personal relationships. Ayesha Raza from the National Commission on Child Rights confirmed this development during a meeting of the Senate Functional Committee on Human Rights. The session also included discussions on Senator Zarqa Sohrawardi’s Protection for Children Bill and the Disabled Persons Bill.

Human Rights and Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar highlighted that various commissions within the Ministry of Human Rights are making significant progress. The National Commission on Child Rights, in particular, has been instrumental in addressing notable cases since its establishment.
The new update allows minors to report objectionable content using the app, which will be promptly removed. The tool enables users to create a digital fingerprint, or hash, for their sensitive photos directly from their devices. This unique identifier is stored anonymously in Meta’s database. If someone tries to upload the same photo, it will be detected, reviewed, and removed from Meta’s platforms.
