Microsoft claims that their take on the foldable phone will have a “World class Camera”

So it has been found that Microsoft invited over developers and journalists to a Berlin-based Surface event which was conducted on Monday. It was found that the company’s Chief Product Officer, Panos Panay was also present at the event and in that regard was asked many questions relating to the upcoming Surface devices. Now as all good Chiefs he did not reveal to much however, he ended up mentioning the possibility of an upcoming Microsoft, foldable phone, the Surface Duo.On top of that the Chief also reportedly stated that this device will pack with it a “a world-class camera”.

It is interesting to note that, the Surface Duo prototype which was shown off earlier only came with a single selfie camera. The back of the device had a cutout for only a single primary camera lens as well. Now, in the era of multiple cellphone cameras with every company moving in with that trend and embracing it in to the roots of the company. These multiple cameras have provided some extraordinary results and an amazing experience, so one has to ask how strong and capable the single lensed camera of Microsoft will be.

For the phone to be attractive with one camera, Microsoft is working on an interesting new technology which will fit an innovative camera system inside the device’s thin form factor. Accordingly the new technology is described in one of Microsoft’s latest published patents. This patent mainly shows us  a camera lens along with an image sensor unit which reportedly can be moved into place with the help of an actuator. On top of that,to provide stablalization the two separate units can be placed together when needed (when taking pictures) and can be moved away from each other when not needed (once the device is folded).

It should be noted however, that so far there has only been one single patent, the technology might actually never see the light of the day. Microsoft might have something entirely different in the works and only time will tell how the Surface Duo turns out to be. According to the reports and if things are to be believed, it is rumored that the new device will launch in Mid-2020.
