Since the positions of Chairman PTA and Member Finance were not filled form last couple of months after stepping down of Dr. Ismail Shah, former Chairman PTA. Now, the government has finally appointed Muhammad Naveed as Chairman Member (Finance) and as well as acting chairman of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
On Wednesday, the decision was taken in a meeting of federal cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.
In this federal cabinet meeting, it was also decided that for three months newly appointed Member (Finance) would also work as Acting Chairman PTA.
According to the Government, the time limit of three months would be utilized in order to seek out and fill the position of regular Chairman PTA.
It is also important to mention here that Mr. Abdul Samad, member compliance was allowed to exercise PTA powers by Islamabad High Court just yesterday.
On the other hand, now it seems that with today’s notification, Mr. Muhammad Naveed will take the charge of Chairman PTA.
For all readers who are unaware of PTA structure, PTA has consisted of three members, that is to say, the
1) Member Finance
2) Member Technical
3) Member Compliance
However, generally, it has been seen that Member Technical is the Chairman of the Authority.
Former Chairman PTA Ismail Shah completed his tenure on November 13, while Tariq Sultan, former Member Finance PTA, ended his four years term on September 26, 2017.
Although both the positions were advertised in newspapers and all around in order to fill the positions. But, for now, just the Member Finance has been appointed whereas Member Technical (who will also be the Chairman PTA) is still not filled as government badly failed to shortlist a right and suitable candidate for the vacant seat of chairman PTA.
However, currently the position of Member Technical is re-advertised and the government may choose and a suitable candidate after due process to fill the vacant seat.
