Netflix carried out tests for their own TV Channel

Today, we have so many streaming services available on our hands, be it Amazon Prime Netflix or HBO, the market for online streaming services has grown a lot in recent times, with many people looking towards these services as the primary source of entertainment. Thus far, there are only a few people left who prefer to watch movies and dramas on the traditional cable TV. However, when and if you are looking for just some white noise or something to watch while you are eating, TV-channels serve the best output for that. Users don’t have to go through the hassle of browsing through Netflix’s database while the food is getting cold, turn on the TV and whatever is on, will help you go along with the food you’re having.

Keeping this in mind, the popular streaming service Netflix is now testing a ‘Netflix Direct’ channel in France which will offer consumers curated content in a scheduled, TV-like manner. This test channel began released in the cable TV market on November 5 and from the looks of it, the channel will start to rollout to a wider audience in the country in December.

Netflix believe that one of the major factors which made the company take such a decision, particularly in France was that a large number of the population still like watching TV channels there.

A Netflix spokesperson says “In France, watching traditional TV remains hugely popular with people who just want a ‘lean back’ experience where they don’t have to choose shows. We’re trying a new feature for our members in France – called ‘Direct.’ Maybe you’re not in the mood to decide, or you’re new and finding your way around, or you just want to be surprised by something new and different”. Surprisingly, the feature is not available via streaming devices, set-top boxes, or TVs with Netflix built-in instead, it is only accessible through  a browser. The global availability of the feature is yet to be disclosed by the company.
