Overseas Pakistanis to be able to register mobiles for 120 days

Several sources at the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoIT) informed ProPakistani that the Federal Government of Pakistan is preparing to launch an online system to temporarily register mobile phones for 120 days for foreign nationals and overseas Pakistanis.

PTA has developed and integrated a temporary registration system (TRS) in conjunction with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in accordance with the recommendations of the Federal Investigation Agency.

It is expected that the TRS initiative will be launched in the next few days at a launch ceremony.

As soon as this mechanism is operational, Pakistani citizens living overseas as well as foreign nationals living abroad will be able to take advantage of this facility of temporarily registering their mobile device on each visit to Pakistan without incurring any customs duties for 120 days once it is operational.

Nonetheless, if the device is intended to be permanently used in Pakistan, then it will be subject to applicable FBR customs duties and taxes if it is intended for permanent use in Pakistan.
