Pakistan Air Force to Purchase More J-10C Fighter Jets From China

The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has completed its preparations to purchase a second fleet of 36 J-10C fighter jets from the Chinese Chengdu Aerospace Corporation (CAC). If the deal goes through, this will be PAF’s second order for the 36 J-10Cs, which it intends to place in the next 6-12 months. In total, PAF intends to purchase 72 units of J-10C, which will gradually be delivered until the end of 2026.

The J-10C is a 4.5-generation multi-role fighter jet that is designed for both air superiority and ground attacks. It is equipped with a helmet-mounted display and sight (HMD/S), an infra-red search and track (IRST) system, and can be armed with air-to-air, air-to-surface, and anti-ship missiles.

The fighter jets will bolster Pakistan’s defence capabilities amid growing tensions with neighboring India. In September, India carried out airstrikes on what it said were terrorist camps in Pakistani territory, weeks after a suicide bombing in the Indian part of Kashmir killed 40 Indian paramilitaries.

Pakistan denies harbouring terrorists and says it carries out counterterror operations against all militant groups including those fighting for independence in Kashmir.
