In a tragic incident, a man lost his life while trying to save his son, who was stuck in a chairlift over the Indus River in northwestern Pakistan. The father drowned in his rescue attempt in the Bisham tehsil of the Shangla area.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the 13-year-old boy was trapped in the manually operated chairlift above the river. His father, Aziz, attempted to rescue him using a rope. However, during the rescue effort, the rope broke, causing Aziz to fall into the river, where he was swept away by the strong currents.

Despite Aziz’s fall, the boy remained stranded in the chairlift. He was eventually rescued by locals after significant efforts. The victim’s family expressed their frustration, stating that they had contacted Rescue 1122’s Bisham station, but received no response, leaving the boy stranded since 12 PM. Rescue services had not yet arrived to search for Aziz’s body.

In contrast, rescue officials claimed they received a call but were informed that the boy had been rescued before they could dispatch a team, and thus did not proceed.

Locals voiced their concerns about the safety of these chairlifts used for crossing the Indus River, noting that retrieving a body from the river can take months. Following this incident, the Bisham local administration sealed the chairlift.

This tragedy occurred nearly a year after the dramatic rescue of eight people, including six children, who were stranded on a cable car hundreds of feet above the ground in Battagram.
