PMD Forecasts Temperature Surge and Rainstorms for the Weekend

The Meteorological Office has forecasted rising daytime temperatures across the country’s southern half due to upper atmospheric high pressure. Additionally, a westerly wave is expected to approach the western regions on the evening of May 10th, extending to the northern areas by May 11th.

Balochistan: Daytime temperatures are predicted to be 3-5°C above average from May 8th to May 10th. On May 10th (evening/night) and May 11th, areas including Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Barkhan, Kalat, Khuzdar, Qilla Saifullah, Kohlu, and Mastung are likely to experience rain, dust storms, or thunderstorms. Similar weather conditions are expected in Kharan, Chagi, and Panjgur during this period.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Daytime temperatures are expected to be 2-3°C above normal from May 8th to May 10th. From the night of May 10th to the morning of May 12th, regions including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Malakand, Waziristan, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Karak, Khyber, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, and Kurram can expect rain, dust storms, or thunderstorms. Isolated areas may experience hailstorms.

Gilgit-Baltistan/Kashmir: Daytime temperatures are forecasted to be 3-5°C above average from May 8th to May 10th. On May 11th and May 12th, Gilgit-Baltistan (including Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar) and Kashmir (including Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur) are likely to experience rain, wind, or thunderstorms.

Punjab/Islamabad: Daytime temperatures are anticipated to be 3-5°C above normal from May 8th to May 10th. From the night of May 10th to May 12th, regions including Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali, Pakpattan, and Sahiwal will experience rain, dust storms, or thunderstorms. Additionally, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Bhakkar, Layyah, Multan, Kot Addu, Muzaffargarh, Rahim Yar Khan, Sadiqabad, Khanpur, Bahawalpur, and Bahawalnagar can expect similar weather conditions on May 10th and May 11th, with isolated areas experiencing hailstorms.

Sindh: Daytime temperatures are expected to be 3-5°C above normal from May 8th to May 10th. On May 10th (night) and May 11th, areas including Sukkur, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Larkana, Dadu, Qambar Shahdad Kot, Jamshoro, and Sanghar may experience dust, thunderstorms, or rain.

  • Farmers should adjust crop watering and wheat harvesting schedules accordingly.
  • The public is advised to minimize exposure to direct sunlight.
  • Windstorms, hailstorms, and lightning may disrupt daily activities and affect standing crops, as well as fragile structures like electric poles, vehicles, and solar panels.
