Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to marry on Saturday 19 May, according to the confirmations coming from Kensington Palace. The royal wedding date for the prince and his American fiancee is the same day the FA Cup final.

Already, the royal couple had indicated that they have planned for themselves a May wedding at St George’s Chapel in the grounds of Windsor Castle

Kensington Palace made the exact confirmation of the wedding date via Twitter feed.

Harry is a 33-year-old prince and his fiancee Meghan Markle 36-year-old actress announced their engagement on 27 November and only a few days later the royal introduced his bride-to-be to the public -surprising the world- during a series of official events happening in Nottingham.

Markle, the actress is best known for her part in the US legal drama Suits. She will join the Queen and other members of the royal family at Sandringham. Sandringham is the Queen’s private estate in Norfolk, where Markle will go on Christmas Day.

Markle’s Christmas invitation is not more than a break with tradition. She is going to be the first royal fiancee invited to Sandringham before officially becoming a member of the royal family, an invitation that is not extended to the Duchess of Cambridge until after marriage.

She will attend the traditional Christmas Day church service at St Mary Magdalene church, with other members of the royal family. It is being thought that  she and Harry will stay with the Cambridges at their Norfolk retreat, Anmer Hall.

Saturday weddings are quite a rarity for senior royals, as the Queen’s was on a Thursday, and the Cambridges’ on a Friday.  Prince Charles father of Harry, did marry Camilla on a Saturday, but originally,  their nuptials were planned for a Friday then delayed for one day to allow Charles to represent the Queen at the funeral of Pope John Paul II that very day.

The wedding is set to fall on the same day as the 2018 FA Cup final, at which, being the president of the Football Association, Harry’s brother and possibly the best man, Prince William, usually presents the trophy.

Not only is William expected to be the best man of Harry, but he also has to present the trophy to the winners of the match.

But there is no need to worry about the issue, as Kick-off doesn’t start until 5:30pm meaning  that he might be able to duck out of Harry’s celebrations and leg it twenty miles from Windsor Castle to Wembley Stadium.
