There has been a recommendation by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) that the federal government begin work on 5G as soon as possible, sources told,
PTA has written a letter to the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication recommending to start work on 5G technology. There is a recommendation in this letter recommending that the federal government approves the 5G guidelines and directs all departments to begin work on the technology.
PTA urges federal government to work on 5G now
PTA sources told that the MoITT and PTA want the homework to be completed regarding 5G, at least 3 are required for the hiring of an international consultant. In order to hire an international consultant, the PTA will have to involve foreign offices and Pakistani embassies in the advertisement in international newspapers, and it will take more than six months to prepare a report after the consultant has been hired.

A detailed report on the international’s workings will be given to the PTA after the international has consulted with all stakeholders and operators. If the federal government decides that the report needs to be revised after reviewing it, it can ask the consultant to do so.
According to PTA sources, this homework is required whenever the government plans to launch 5G services, so it is important to complete it. There is a possibility of the timely launch of 5G if this 6-to-9-month exercise is completed within a few months. Moreover, the work conducted will provide a better understanding of what is expected by industry and other stakeholders. There were draft guidelines issued by the MoITT regarding 5G which were based on feedback from all stakeholders. Following input from them, a report was presented to the government regarding these guidelines.

It has been reported by the MoITT that Pakistan already lags behind other countries in the region in terms of launching 5G services. The 5G network has already been launched in India and Bangladesh.
It is expected that 5G will be launched by the government by June next year. There is a need to determine which spectrum bands will be used, as well as the price of the spectrum, and this work must begin immediately. As soon as the federal government approves the guidelines, all organizations will begin working on their respective parts as soon as the government has approved them.
