The Punjab Local Government and Community Development Department has approved a significant allocation of Rs. 150 billion for the reconstruction of damaged roads throughout the province.

A spokesperson from the local government department stated that municipal corporations will oversee the implementation of the road rehabilitation plan. They noted that work on reconstructing main and link roads in urban areas is already in progress.

In parallel, the provincial government has established a working group to finalize the details and develop proposals for introducing a garbage collection tax. The working group comprises Senior Minister Mariam Aurangzeb, Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique, and Special Secretary of the Local Government Department, Asia Gul.

The department is contemplating the imposition of a garbage collection tax ranging from Rs. 50 to Rs. 500, based on the size and location of residences.

In a recent announcement, the provincial government revealed plans to construct five expressways connecting major districts across the province to enhance travel infrastructure. A budget of Rs. 139.5 billion has been sanctioned for this purpose by the Chief Minister. The proposed expressways include:

  1. Bahawalpur N5 to Jhangra Sharqi Interchange Expressway, spanning 42 kilometers with a budget of Rs. 13 billion.
  2. The Multan to Vehari Expressway, covering 93 kilometers with an allocation of Rs. 26.50 billion.
  3. The Chichawatni to Pir Mahal-Shorkot to Garhmahraja-Chowk Azam to Layyah Expressway, stretching 199 kilometers with a budget of Rs. 66 billion.
  4. The Sahiwal to Samundri Interchange Expressway, spanning 57 kilometers with a budget of Rs. 23 billion.
  5. The Faisalabad Chiniot to Kamal Pur Interchange to Tehsil Chowk Chiniot Expressway, extending over 24 kilometers at a cost of Rs. 11 billion.
