Despite the fact that 5G smartphones have become a lot more popular in the more recent times, the most affordable 5G handsets still pretty much arrive in the mid-range segment of the market. This though might soon change as Qualcomm has announced its Snapdragon 480 5G chipset – which has the capabilities to bring about newer as well as faster bandwidth to more affordable devices.
In accordance with a tweet following in from a known tipster, the chip making giant Qualcomm is reportedly going to unveil the Snapdragon 480 5G processor just today. The latest chip is based on an 8nm process and makes way with Kyro octa cores that would have the capabilities to clock up to 2Ghz. In accordance with what the tweet goes on to suggest, the latest chipset actually goes on to over a 100 percent improvement in performance when compared with the previous generation’s Snapdragon 460 and the Adreno 619 GPU.
The leakster also proceeded on to add that this new chipset actually has the capabilities to support up to 120Hz refresh rate displays. This might also end up meaning that we may soon start seeing more affordable handsets that may launch with high refresh rates. Lastly, the Twitter post also mentioned that the new chip will also actually support Wi-Fi 6 standards, too. If the report is indeed true, then we might soon see a shift in the affordable smartphone segments – with more and more OEMs offering 5G networking in cheap handsets.
Unfortunately enough for now, this still refers to an unconfirmed report hence we should take all the news with regards to this with a pinch of salt. Nonetheless though, we cannot exactly rule this out either. More info is soon to be followed of course in the days to come.
