Well finally we have some great news for the people of Pakistan, Samsung, Huawei and Nokia have all expressed their desire to start their operations in our country. According to a local newspaper, the government has decided to formulate a new mobile phone manufacturing policy which will be in place for the major companies of the world, who specialize in this field. All three companies have reportedly expressed there will to start the manufacturing process in our home country which is mainly because of the low wage rates in comparison to those of China, where pretty much all of the manufacturing of technology takes place.

Now, the labor costs in China is pretty high, CNY 5,000(PKR 105,000) for the unskilled labor and CNY 20,000(PKR 420,000) for high end and skilled workers in the industry and in comparison to the wage rates here in Pakistan, a lot of people would agree that if the manufacturing of a business can start in our country, firms will be able to cut costs on a much, much larger scale. Furthermore, a report suggests that the manufacturing process of mobile phone devices consists of 60 sub parts. The plant hence will cost somewhere around Rs 2 Billion.

Now all of the aforementioned details were reportedly discussed at a meeting between top organizations of Pakistan which include, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), a meeting which was held on the 31stJanuary.

Moving on, AsimAyaz who is the DGM in charge policy states that the EDB policy team are currently working on a mobile phone policy which will be beneficial for both parties. The companies themselves and of course the relative government of our country.

If this plan does move forward and if the mentioned major Mobile Phone manufacturers do give the green light to start operations here in Pakistan, the benefits to country can be great, just imagine the amount of job opportunities which would be made available, not to forget the major investment that the companies will bring and moreover, our export bill will also get better. The benefits can great and can in turn help Pakistan come out of the economic crisis it has surrounded itself in.
